It is late afternoon in early spring in the Grand Tetons. The mother had been resting in a small hollow that she had dug while the cubs romped around sparring, climbing trees and chasing each other. She has just stood up and summoned the two playful cubs who had just left their den for the first time a few short weeks earlier.
